alcolmeter® 500

Fast yet accurate, fully quantitative breath analysis in a compact design

The lion alcolmeter® 500 uses the Lion fuel cell sensor, so the reading is very unlikely to be affected by anything that occurs naturally on the subject’s breath.

The lion alcolmeter® 500 is used extensively by Police Forces around the world, mainly for screening but also for evidential testing process.  A variant of the lion alcolmeter® 500 is Type Approved by the Home Office, Great Britain, for UK Police use.

The operator switches the instrument on and, when instructed, attaches a new mouthpiece to the sampling port. He or she then instructs the subject to blow through it until the sample is taken. A short time later their alcohol level is shown on the clear, easy-to-read display: this is illuminated, for use at night.

When the reading has been taken, the operator removes and discards the mouthpiece. After a short delay the instrument is ready to use again on the next subject, as required. The result of the last test can be recalled to the display, if required.

As an alternative to the mouthpiece a reusable sampling cup, can be used for rapid subject testing, such as at a Police roadblock or factory gate.

This instrument must be checked with an alcohol standard at regular intervals, and recalibrated if required.  The user may do this using an AlcoCal® product; or, alternatively, contact Lion to arrange for a calibration at the Lion Laboratories Ltd facility.

A Printer Kit [printer plus carry case] is also available as an optional extra for use with this instrument. This generates a permanent record of each test.
