The two instruments in the current lion intoxilyzer® range are full-blown evidential systems, based on infrared analysis for alcohol quantification. Breath sampling wise, each uses efficient alcohol expirogram against real-time monitoring, to ensure that only deep lung air is supplied for analysis, and that the specimen is unpolluted by any residual mouth alcohol.
lion intoxilyzer® 6000This instrument is used by Police Forces throughout England and Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland, under Government Type Approvals. It is compliant with the OIML R 126 1998 [E] specification. Analytically it operates using five filters in the 3 micron infrared region, for fast and specific ethanol analysis. It is a stationary instrument, being installed and fixed into a work-station cabinet in the Police Station, and is powered only by mains electricity.
lion intoxilyzer® 8000This instrument is used by Police Forces in many countries around the world, with the largest populations being in North America, Australia, Malaysia and Italy. It is compliant with the OIML R 126 1998 [E] specification. Analytically it operates using two optical filters and two detectors. The actual analysis result as reported is conducted at 9 microns, but a second measurement at 3 microns is also made: this ensures a very high specificity to ethanol. It is a fully mobile instrument. It can be used at a Police Station, or in a vehicle; or indeed anywhere. It is powered by mains electricity, or from a vehicle’s 12 volts electrical system, or using its own internal, rechargeable battery.
